GD filed over Bangladesh Bank fire

A Bangladesh Bank official today filed a general diary (GD) with Motijheel Police Station over last night’s fire incident at the central bank.

Joint Director Nurul Islam, on behalf of the central bank, filed the diary around 10:00am,” Omar Faruque, officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station, told The Daily Star.

In the GD, the bank official mentioned that a fire broke out at the 13th floor of the bank’s headquarters in Motijheel around 9:20pm on Thursday, which they informed the Civil Defence and Fire Service department immediately.

Within 30 minutes of the incident, the fire fighters doused the fire, the bank official stated in the GD, said the OC.

“Two of the five-member committee have visited the spot today,” said Samarendra Nath Biswas, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Dhaka.

He also said that they are hopeful to submit the report within two to three days.

Earlier yesterday, the Fire Service and Civil Defence formed a five-member committee headed by deputy director Samarendra Nath Biswas to probe the incident.

“Some computers in the room were damaged due to the fire,” said Deputy Assistant Director Abdul Halim who participated in the dousing operation.
