Gazipur ‘drug dealer’ killed in ‘gunfight’

An alleged drug dealer was killed last night in what police described as a gunfight in Rajendrapur upazilla of Gazipur district.

The deceased was identified as Monir Khan, 35, son of Kobir Khan from Rajendrapur, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

Monir was detained with 100 pieces of contraband yaba tablets around 10:45pm yesterday, said Harun-Ur Rashid, a sub-inspector of Joydebpur Police Station, said.

Later, police accompanied him to another “drug den” near third gate of Rajendrapur National Park. “His accomplices there opened fire on police. Cops fired back in retaliation.”

Monir died in the gunfight, the SI said. The dead body was taken to Gazipur Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for post mortem.

Monir was accused in 27 cases including extortions and drug dealings in Joydebpur Police Station.
