Four BCL men arrested on charge of extortion

Police arrested four leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from Nandail upazila on charge of demanding extortion money from a police official yesterday.

The arrestees are former vice president Nandail upazila BCL unit Raju 29, organizing secretary Royal, 26, and BCL members Titu, 25, and Kamrul Hasan, 29.

Admitting the incident, Shaker Hossain Siddiquee, additional superintendent of police, said Wahidul Alam Faysal, former secretary of BCL's Nandail upazila unit, allegedly demanded Tk 20,000 from Kamrul Islam Miah, OC of Nandail Police Station, around 10:00am yesterday and sent the four BCL men, loyal to him, to the police station to realise the money.

The four pressed the OC to give the demanded money that led to an altercation. At one stage, police arrested the four BCL men.
