Filling station manager shot, robbed of Tk 10 lakh

Muggers shot the manager of a filling station in Jhenidah town yesterday and took away Tk 10.08 lakh from him.

The victim is Hasanuzzaman Faruk, 55, manager of Rezaul Islam Filling Station, and son of Shahidul Islam of Hamdah village under the municipality. He is undergoing treatment at Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.

The incident occurred when manager Faruk was entering the Pubali Bank Paira Chattar branch at around 10:20am. Faruk said four people on two motorbikes arrived in front of the bank and fired at him.

Bank manager Mohammad Hasanur Zaman said the incident took place near the stairs where there is no CCTV. Besides, the guard cannot see the place from where he sits, he added.  

Hassan Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jhenidah Police Station, said the muggers shot Faruk thrice from behind and snatched Tk 10.08 lakh and a cheque for Tk 4.50 lakh from him.

Law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to arrest the gang members, the OC added.
