FF, 3 journos summoned

A court has summoned district Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Mezbah Uddin Ahmed and three others in the district, following a defamation case filed by a journalist on Monday.

The daily Sangbad correspondent Gokul Roy, 65, lodged the case with the Court of Lalmonirhat Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mehedy Hasan Mandol, over a protest note published in weekly Alormoni, published from Aditmari upazila.

Three other accused are Alormoni Editor Masud Rana Rashed, Executive Editor Helal Hossain Kabir and publisher Ramjan Ali.

Gokul Roy said, “I filed a report over the death of a freedom fighter in Lalmonirhat town's Haribhanga area, which was published in the daily Sangbad on September 6 last year.”

“The Alormoni published an objectionable protest note quoting district Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Mezbah Uddin on September 13 last year. In it, the weekly and Mezbah Uddin attacked our renowned family and tarnished our image in the society,” he said.

After hearing the case, the magistrate issued summon on the four accused, asking them to appear before the court within seven days.
