Female UP member jailed

A court here sentenced a female member of a union parishad in Kachua upazila to six months' imprisonment in a cheque dishonour case.

The court also fined her Tk 2,60,000.

Bagerhat Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Zakaria Hossain gave the verdict.

The convict, Sitara Begum, is female member of Gopalpur Union Parishad.

According to the prosecution, Sitara, daughter of late Fazlu Shikdar, purchased bricks, sand, rods and cement from Md Chand Sheikh, son of Amjad Hossain Sheikh.

Sitara gave a cheque of Tk 2,60,000 of Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Badhal Bazar Branch, to Chand as payment for the materials.

After the cheque was dishonoured by the bank, Chand filed a case with the court on March 8 in 2017.
