Uncle and cousin of the 5-year-old boy give concessional statements

Uncle and cousin of ill-fated Tuhin Miah today confessed that they along with his father killed the five-year-old boy to harass their opponents.

Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Khaled Miah recorded the statements of Tuhin’s uncle Nasir Miah and cousin Shahriar this afternoon, said Mizanur Rahman, acting superintendent of police in Sunamganj.

After recording their statements, the court sent them to Sunamganj jail, the police officer told our Sylhet correspondent.  

The body of Tuhin was found hanging from a tree some 200 yards away from his home at Kejaura of Sunamganj’s Derai upazila yesterday.

As the news spread in mainstream and on social media, everybody asked why anyone would unleash such unspeakable brutality on a child.

Quoting the confessional statement, the police official said Tuhin’s father Abdul Basir came out of his house along with the boy while he was sleeping in the night and slaughtered him with the help of Nasir and Shahriar.

Later, they cut off his ears, genital and pierced two knives deep into his stomach, the SP said according to the statements. Two people’s names were embedded in his grip, he added.

After the death of Tuhin, police interrogated the trio and detained them for their dubious statements in this connection yesterday.

Tuhin’s mother Monira Begum today filed a case with Derai Police Station accusing 10 to 12 unknown people and the victim’s father, uncle and cousin were shown arrested in the case.

Meanwhile, a Sunamganj court today placed Basir, Musobbir and their neighbour Jamshed Ali on three-day remand each in connection with the ruthless killing.

Sunamganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Shyam Kanti Saha granted the remand when Sub-Inspector Abu Taher Mollah of Derai Police Station produced them before the court this afternoon with five-day remand prayer.
