Five years after the murder of a child in Narsingdi, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today disclosed that the father had assisted the criminals to kill his daughter in exchange for money.

Eleven-year-old Elma Begum, a second-grade student, was found dead in a paddy field in Narsingdi Sadar upazila's Baherchar on March 28, 2015.

During investigation of the murder case, a team of the CID recently arrested five accused and found the involvement of Elma's father Abdul Motaleb.

While briefing reporters, CID Deputy Inspector General Imtiaz Ahmed said there was a long-standing feud over establishing supremacy between two groups, led by one Md Shahjahan Bhuiyan and one Bachchu, a former union member.

Motaleb was a member of the group led by Shahjahan.

On March 1, 2015, Motaleb and other members of Shahjahan group held a meeting and took a decision that they would kill someone and file a murder case against their rival group members.

During that meeting, Motaleb made a deal of killing his daughter Elma in exchange for Tk 30 lakh.

A few days later on March 28, 2015, some people beat Elma to death in a paddy field. Motaleb filed a murder case against some identified and unidentified persons, without naming the real culprits.

The recent arrestees are: Abdul Motaleb, father of the victim; Mongli Begum, Masum Mia, Md Baten and Md Shahjahan Bhuiyan. All are from Baherchar village of Narsingdi Sadar upazila.
