Govt mulling to build border-side roads to facilitate BGB patrolling: Kamal

The government is mulling over constructing border-side roads to facilitate patrolling by officials of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and other law enforcement agencies, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said today.

The government is also planning to install motion detecting sensors across the border to ensure security and prevent trespassing, the minister also said.

The home minister said this while talking to reporters at a briefing held at Cabinet Division at the Secretariat in after emerging from the three-day annual conference of the deputy commissioners (DCs) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka today.

A pilot project of installing such motion detecting sensors is underway at Benapole border, Kamal said.

Earlier at the DCs’ conference, replying to a plea of the deputy commissioners, the minister said that Fire Service and Civil Defence stations will be set up at all the upazilas across the country as per instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The process of setting up the fire service stations is being delayed because of land requisition issues, Kamal said, seeking the DCs’ intervention to resolve the issue.

More divers and firefighters will be recruited to add to the existing manpower of the fire service, the minister told the DCs.

About the preparations of the upcoming national elections, Kamal urged the DCs to take all out efforts to hold a free, fair and credible election.

The law enforcing agencies have already been given adequate logistical supports to oversee the election and ensure peaceful atmosphere during the polls, he said.
