Facebook addiction costs her life!

Suchitra Khatun, who married her Facebook friend two years ago, has put a tragic end of her life, ironically following an altercation centring her addiction to the social media.

The incident occurred at Canalpara village of Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga on Monday morning.

Suchitra, 18, daughter of Soam Ali of Canalpara, married diesel machine operator Milon Hossain, 22, son of Antim Hossain of the same village, after two years of affair developed through Facebook, said police.

“Suchitra had an addiction to using Facebook. She was asked to stop the habit but she ignored it. This often led to altercation between us,” Milon said in his written statement to police.

On Sunday night, Milon snatched Suchitra's mobile set and threw it after removing the SIM card. The mobile broke and Suchitra started crying. An altercation followed.

On Monday morning when Milon went out of home for work, Suchitra committed suicide by hanging herself from ceiling of her home, Milon told police.

Abu Zehad Md Fakhrul Alam, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga police station, said, “So far we have known, excessive use of Facebook often created chaos between the couple and it led to the suicide of the housewife. Investigation is going on to know further about the matter.”

Contacted by this correspondent over phone, Milon said, “Suchitra's too much addiction to Facebook often caused altercation between us. But I never thought she would kill herself due to this.”

An unnatural death case was recorded regarding the matter.
