Ex-UNDP Bangladesh chief summoned for misusing tax free car March 30

Customs Intelligence today issued a letter to former UNDP resident coordinator in Bangladesh to appear before a hearing on March 30 for misusing a tax free facility.

Stefan Priesner, former resident coordinator of UNDP Bangladesh, imported a car using tax free facility and allegedly sold the vehicle to a non-privileged person and laundered the money abroad, which is clearly a case of misusing the facility for personal gain, read the letter.

An enquiry team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation directorate has found evidence against Priesner in this connection after confiscating the vehicle and conducting an investigation, the letter added.

This is the second time a letter has been sent to Priesner asking him to appear before the enquiry team.

Earlier, a letter was sent to Priesner on November 29 last year to meet the enquiry team on December 26.

However, Priesner, who is currently posted in Uzbekistan, failed to comply with the notice.

The notice has been issued as per Sec 07 and 26 of the Customs Act, 1969, and 07 of the Money Laundering Prevention Action Act, 2012.
