Ex-SC judge Aminul Kabir passes away

Justice Amirul Kabir Chowdhury, a former judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and the first chairman of National Human Rights Commission has died at the age of 78.

He breathed his last at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in Dhaka yesterday evening.

Justice Amirul Kabir Chowdhury, who had been suffering from lunge infection, left his wife, two daughters, a son and a host of admirers to mourn his death, his nephew Advocate Md Abid Chowdhury told The Daily Star today.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Dhanmondi Eidgah mosque in Dhaka last night while the second Janaza held at Chandgaon Baro mosque today.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain attended the janaza at Dhanmondi last night, Abid Chowdhury said.

He was buried at Chandgaon residential area graveyard in Chittagong this afternoon.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate Zainul Abedin and its Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon expressed shock at the death of Justice Amirul.
