Ex-state minister Mujibur Rahman passes away

Former state minister for Health and Family Welfare and running lawmaker from Awami League, Mujibur Rahman Fakir died of cardiac arrest this morning. He was 68.

He breathed his last around 9:25am at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), reports our Mymensingh correspondent quoting Dr Motiur Rahman Bhuiyan, secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association’s Mymensingh unit.

He was rushed at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at MMCH after he complained of chest pain at his residence in Akua area around 2.30am.

The AL lawmaker had been suffering from high blood pressure, diabetic and many other diseases, said Dr SK Apu of Cardiology Department at MMCH.

Fakir, a freedom fighter, was born on January 1, 1947. He passed MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College in 1971. Later, he joined as a doctor of the armed forces and retired in 1978.

He founded “Nasima Nursing Home” in Mymensingh town in 1981, the first nursing home of the district.

His first namaj-e-janaza was held after johr prayers at Mymensingh town’s Eidgah ground.

Later, for another namaj-e-janaza, his body was taken to Dhaka this afternoon, said Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
