Ex-minister Mostafa Faruk passes away

Former Information and Communication Technology Minister Mostafa Faruque Mohammad.

Mostafa Faruque Mohammad, former Information and Communication Technology (ICT) minister, died at a hospital in Dhaka tonight. He was 74.

Mostafa Faruque, also a former ambassador, is survived by wife and two daughters to mourn his death.

He was born at Krishnanagar village under Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore district on March 21, 1942.

PM Sheikh Hasina mourns

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of former minister Mostafa Faruque Mohammad.

In a condolence message, the premier recalled invaluable contributions of Mostafa Faruque Mohammad to politics and diplomacy.

"The country has lost a dedicated politician and diplomat in his death," she said.

Faruque served in various capacities at Bangladesh embassies in India, Myanmar, Egypt, Vietnam and Russia. He was also Bangladesh's alternative representative to the UN Security Council in 1979.

In 2008, he was elected as the lawmaker from Jessore-2 (Jhikargachha-Chowgachha) constituency. On September 13, 2012, he was appointed as the minister of Bangladesh government.
