The High Court today granted six months’ ad interim bail to sacked mayor of Gazipur City Corporation MA Mannan in two violence cases paving way for him to walk out of jail.

The HC bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice KM Kamrul Kader also issued two rules urging the government to explain in four weeks as to why Mannan should not be granted regular bail in the cases.

The court came up with the order and rules after hearing two bail petitions filed by Mannan in connection the cases filed by the police with Tongi and Kaliakoir Police Stations in December 31 last year.

Manna’s lawyer M Masud Rana told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar to his client’s release from jail following the HC order.

He said Mannan who was arrested in February 11, this year, got bail in all the 17 cases against him from the HC and lower court.
