Escaping drug dealer killed in Moulvibazar police firing

An alleged drug dealer was killed in police firing when he attacked the law enforcers with a sharp weapon to avoid arrest in Gobindasree area of Moulvibazar town last night.

The deceased was identified as Ruhel Ahmed, 35, of Mostofapur union in Sadar upazila.

Four persons including three police personnel suffered injuries in the attack, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

The injured are: Abdul Malik, 45, sub-inspector of Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station, constables Salahuddin, 25, and Fakhrul Islam, 50, and driver Md Bazlu.

Among them Abdul Malik was shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College as his condition deteriorated.

Ruhel abruptly attacked the police personnel with a machete forcing them to retaliate with gunfire, said Akiluddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

Later, Ruhel was found with bullet wounds inside a bush few yards away from the scene.

He was taken to Sylhet General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
