Ensure fair price of boro paddy

Farmers from different areas of the district staged a demonstration and formed a human chain at DB Road in the town yesterday, demanding fair price of boro paddy.

Organised by the Gaibandha unit of Bangladesh Krishak Samity, the demonstrators paraded the main roads at the district headquarters and later formed a human chain at DB Road.

Addressing a rally at the venue, speakers urged the government to open paddy procurement centres at union level so that the farmers could sell their produce directly to the centre and get fair price. Otherwise, they would be deprived of fair price as middlemen procure paddy from farmers at throwaway price.

The speakers also demanded hike in boro paddy price because it has continued to fall in the market, adversely affecting the farmers who could not even recover the production cost.

The rally was addressed, among others, by Waziur Rahman Rafel, president of the district unit of CPB, and Subhash Shaha Roy, president of the district unit of Bangladesh Krishak Samity.
