Elephant shot dead

A joint team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police shot an Indian elephant dead at Masudpur village in Shibganj upazila yesterday.

Major Minnat Ali, operation officer of BGB-9 Battalion, said, an Indian elephant entered the bordering village at around 7:00am.

Being informed, a joint team of BGB and police rushed to the area and tried to send back the elephant to Indian territory through Masudpur border but failed.

The team then fired 54 bullets, killing the elephant.

The animal damaged several hectares of croplands in the area, said locals.
