Elderly man beaten to death

An elderly man was beaten to death at Nalchhia village in Melandah upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased was Chan Sheikh, 62, son of late Yousuf Sheikh of the village.

Neighbour Russel, 18, son of Dulal Miah, locked in an altercation with Golam Nabi,18, son of Chan Sheikh, over suspicion that Nabi had torn the banner of mobile operator Bangla Link which was hung in a corner of Russel's grocery shop at the village, said Sub-inspector Abul Kashem, in-charge of Mahmudpur Police Investigation Centre under Melandah Police Station.

As Nabi's father Chan Miah came forward to settle the issue, Russel pushed Chan down, leaving him critically injured. He later died on the spot, said the SI.

Police sent the  body to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
