Thousands of passengers have been facing untold sufferings on Dhaka-Tangail highway due to a 20-kilometre tailback caused by incessant rain and heavy pressure of vehicles ahead of Eid-ul-Azha since early morning.

The vehicular movement came to a halt totally around 5:00am, causing a huge traffic jam from Jirani point of Gazipur to Kurni in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail, reports our Tangail correspondent.

The traffic started to move slowly around 9:00am.

“The main reason behind the traffic jam was the heavy rush of cattle-loaded trucks on the highway ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha,” Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Gorai Highway Police outpost, told our correspondent.

Apart from this, the vehicles were moving very slowly due to the drizzle, the OC said.

The home-bound people have been suffering immensely on the highway for the last three days due to huge heavy traffic congestion.
