EC has no failure: Rakibuddin

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed today claimed that the commission has no failure in arranging free, fair and credible elections.

“We have been able to create such atmosphere where none can cast a false vote in favour of any candidate,” Rakibuddin, who is set to end his tenure in February, claimed citing an oblique reference to the previous elections.

Highlighting success of the present commission in preparing voters’ database and providing smart national identity cards, he said, “We believe in technical development and thus we have introduced electronic voting machine on an experimental basis.”

“There is a trend in our country that a party denies result when it defeats in elections. Election Commission cannot ensure satisfaction for all,” Rakibuddin said at a programme in Comilla this afternoon.

About the new election commission, the CEC said, “It is the matter for the concerned authorities. We hope the next Election Commission will do its best for us.”

Responding to a query, he said the new Election Commission will arrange the Comilla City Corporation polls.
