Early marriage foiled in Bogra

An attempt of early marriage was foiled in Shajahanpur upazila of Bogra today.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Kamruzzaman foiled the attempt of a 16-year-old girl, an eleventh grader of Government Mujibur Rahman Women’s College, in a remote village this afternoon.

The parents of the girl arranged the early marriage with a man from Kustia on next Friday. Unwilling to get married, the girl rushed to the UNO office and informed the matter, UNO Md Kamruzzaman told our local correspondent.

Later, he along with local public representatives rushed to the spot and postponed the early marriage, the UNO added.

With this, six attempts of early marriages were foiled in the last one and a half months in the upazila.
