Along with three other universities across the world, Dhaka University is going to participate in the final round of a “global campaign against extremism” scheduled to be held in US on July 19.

The campaign titled ‘Peer to Peer: Facebook Global Digital Challenge’ has been initiated by Facebook to “counter the pervasiveness of hate and extremism” on social media.

A total of 350 universities across the world submitted their campaign proposals to the social media platform on June 7.

DU and three other universities were selected to present their campaigns in Washington DC on July 19 before a panel of senior leaders, policymakers and guests of the platform.

The three other universities are: American University of Nigeria, CEU Universidad San Pablo of Spain and Xavier University of Philippines.

A 12-member team, supervised by DU teacher Dr Asif Shahan, worked rigorously for creating tolerance among people with their anti-extremism campaign named “Think Twice, Act Wise”.

The team included students of schools and colleges in the campaign, said Imran Ahsan, a leader of the team and also a master’s student of development studies.

“We’re happy that we’re going to represent Bangladesh in such a platform,” he said, adding that the experiences will boost the campaign to fight extremism.
