Dignity of some Rab men, not entire force, tarnished: Court on 7-murder

This May 18, 2014 photo shows Lt Col (retd) Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, ex-Rab official arrested over alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of seven people, being taken into police custody after he was produced before a court in Narayanganj.

A Narayanganj court today observed that some highly ambitious members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in connivance with common people have committed the sensational seven-murder.

“It is a gruesome offence and the accused are fully responsible for this instead of the elite force,” Advocate Wazed Ali Khokon, a public prosecutor of the court told reports quoting the observation.

Terming Rab as a disciplined force, the court also said that dignity of the Rab members has been tarnished but overall pride of the elite force has not been hampered.

The court said Rab has been playing vital roles in curbing militancy and terrorism in the country for a long time.

“Some highly ambitious members of the force getting involved with common people have committed the murder. So the Rab will not shoulder the burden. It is their burden who involved in the incident,” the court said.
