Miscreants today gunned down chairman of Dighlia union parishad (UP) in Narail’s Lohagora upazila.

Deceased Latifur Rahman Palash, 48, was general secretary of ruling Awami League's workers front Sramik League, reports our Benapole correspondent.

Four to five unknown men opened fire targeting at Latifur while he along with Farid Ahmed Bulbul, a member of the union, was on way to a bank after attending a meeting at 12noon, said Lohagora Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam Janan.

Latifur received a bullet in his head. However, Farid was unhurt during the attack.

The injured Latifur was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead, OC Shafiqul said.

Protesting the attack, local AL activists staged a demonstration in the area demanding punishment of the unknown attackers.
