Tailbacks ensued on Dhaka-Aricha and Dhaka-Chittagong highways today caused immense sufferings for home-goers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Traffic on Dhaka-Chittagong highway was sloth since morning and was yet to ease until last reported around 9:00pm.

Also, traffic on Dhaka-Aricha highway was moving very slowly since afternoon. Several hundred vehicles have been waiting on both sides of the Paturia-Daulatdia Ferry Ghat for over 4 hours.

Meanwhile, traffic on Dhaka-Tangail highway, which was sloth in the morning, became moderate towards the evening, allowing slow vehecular movement, our correspondent reports.

Vehicles were at a stop through several points of the highway because of the additional load ahead of Eid. Most of the vehicles were cattle-laden lorries and trucks.

Tangail police Superintendent Mahbubul Alam told our local correspondent that around 700 policemen were deployed to ensure smooth passage of public.

Meanwhile, vehicles were stranded for 13 kilometres on Dhaka-Chittagong highway this morning, our local correspondent reports quoting Md Kamaruzzaman Raj, in-charge sergeant of Bhaberchar Highway Police Outpost.

The gridlock on the highway was seen from the Meghna bridge to Meghna Gomati bridge in Comilla till filing the report at 9:00pm.

“Police are trying to reduce the traffic jam,” Kamaruzzaman said.

Dhaka-Mawa highway was relatively stress free until last reported.
