The High Court (HC) yesterday granted bail to Rafiqul Amin, managing director of Destiny Group, in a graft case filed for not submitting his wealth statement to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order following a bail petition moved by Rafiqul's lawyers.

The highest punishment in the case is three years and Rafiqul has been in jail for around two years already, thus HC granted his bail, ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan said.

The same bench, however, rejected bail to Mohammad Hossain, chairman of Destiny Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society, in a separate case filed for not submitting his wealth statement.

The HC passed the order as the trial court is yet to finish hearing on the arguments against the accused in the case, the ACC lawyer added.

The duo cannot be released from jail as they are arrested in two money laundering cases, he also said.

Advocate M Mainul Islam appeared for the petitioners, while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the state.
