Transport movement on Dhaka-Chittagong highway remained suspended for two and a half hours today after students of a college blocked a road in the port city protesting deaths of two fellows in a road crash.

Wahid and Shamim, students of the Mustafa Hakim Degree College were hit by a speedy truck while crossing a road in front of their college near City Gate around 10:30am, reports our correspondent.

Locals rushed them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead, said Swadip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah Police Station.

Protesting their deaths, students of the college along with locals put barricade on the highway, creating a huge traffic jam in and around the area, the OC said

The students withdrew their agitation at 1:00pm when local authorities assured them of taking legal action against the truck driver, and compensate for the victim’s family, said Arefin Jewel, additional deputy commissioner (west) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
