Dead BNP leader sued in Jhenidah

Believe it or not, a dead BNP leader who died over a year ago has been made accused in two cases filed by police against BNP and Jamaat activists on February 7 and 8.

The name of late Idris Ali of Naldanga village under Jhenidah Sadar upazila, former district BNP vice president, was mentioned in the case filed by Gopalpur Bazar police camp in-charge Md Alauddin on February 7, and another case filed by Narikelbaria police camp in-charge Badiur Rahman the next day.

“I am surprised to see my father's name in the two cases as he died on November 18 in 2016,” said Idrish Ali's son Ahsan Habib.

“Late Idris Ali was vice president of the previous district committee.

Now there is no one named Idris Ali in the committee,” said Abdul Malek, general secretary of Jhenidah district BNP.

Contacted, Gopalpur Bazar police outpost in-charge Mohammad Alauddin said, “Idris Ali's name was included as the other arrestees mentioned the name. It was simply an act of mistake if the person is dead.”

In-charge of Narikelbaria police outpost Badiur Rahman said, “If the matter was done by mistake, it can be corrected.”

Amdadul Haque Sheikh, OC of Jhenidah Sadar Police Station, said, “There is no scope to file such a case against a dead person. Police will investigate the matter.”
