DCs propose to add 1 lakh taxpayers every year

The deputy commissioners of the country have proposed that each of them would add one lakh new taxpayers per year.

They made the proposal during a three-day annual conference of the DCs at the secretariat in Dhaka.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the disclosure while addressing reporters after attending a meeting with the DCs today.

The finance minister however was more pragmatic, and said 10,000 new taxpayers from the DCs every year would be sufficient to meet the proposed revenue target.

In Bangladesh, only seven to ten lakh citizens pay taxes regularly. To resolve the crisis, National Board of Revenue (NBR) and deputy commissioners will conduct a joint survey across the country soon.
