Darul Ihsan University cannot run activities as the Supreme Court today upheld a High Court verdict that last year declared it illegal for not complying with the laws.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order dismissing an appeal of the university authorities challenging the HC verdict, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters.

On April 13 last year the HC announced the verdict after hearing 13 writ petitions filed by a group of people and students claiming ownership of DIU at different times.

The HC also directed a former deputy director of the University Grant Commission and a senior assistant secretary of the education ministry to deposit Tk 5 lakh each to the state fund for their reckless decisions about DIU.
