‘Dark’ morning rain to begin day (video)

Morning shows the day but today’s was exceptional in Dhaka city.

Like any regular day it was a bright sunshine morning. Schoolchildren were going to their schools and the office goers to their office.

All of a sudden black cloud eclipsed the bright sky and the on came with it rain and the dark – dark like the darkest of nights!

Pedestrians were hurrying to safety. Vehicles plying the streets with their headlights on. And furious wind everywhere, whistling through windows and slamming the window panes.

Drizzling started at 6:00am and it poured down in cats and dogs fashion by 8:00am and continued for an hour.

Roads in Shukrabad, Rajabazar, Green Road, Dhanmondi and some other lower-lying areas were inundated exposing the poor drainage facility in city ahead of monsoon.

Commuters, especially students and office goers, suffered as vehicles and rickshaws were stranded in roads.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department officials said rainfall might continue till this afternoon.

Many districts experienced rainfall as nor’wester blew through Pabna, Sirajganj, Bogra, Dhaka and Faridpur, Kamrul Hasan, a meteorologist at Dhaka Met office, told The Daily Star Online.

There was 7ml of rain in the capital between 6:00am to 9:00am, while it may rain with 80km/hrs wind in the southern areas including Chittagong, Comilla and Noakhali this afternoon.
