‘Dacoit’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Magura cops

An alleged dacoit was killed in what police described as gunfight at Shalikha upazila of Magura in the early hours of today.

The victim was identified as Obaidur Rahman, 32 son of Mejbah Uddin from the upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

Police received intelligence that a group of robbers were preparing for a heist on the Magura-Jessore highway, said Abu Jihad Fakrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station.

“Police cracked down in Ramakantapur area of the highway around 3:00am. Sensing lawmen’s presence they opened fire. Policemen were compelled to fire back.”

After the battle subsided, Obaidur was found lying on the spot. He was rushed to Shalikha local health complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

A foreign pistol, three bullets, two sharp weapons and a magazine were recovered from the spot. The deceased was said to be accused in four cases of robbery in separate police stations.
