Daab Bagan massacre day today

Today is Daab Bagan massacre day.

On April 19 in 1971, Pakistani occupation forces killed over 200 people, including a number of freedom fighters, during a combat in Daab Bagan (coconut garden) area at Shahidnagar village in Santhia upaizila.

Local people, freedom fighters and different organisations will place wreaths at the memorial to pay homage to the martyred sons of the soil.

District administration will hold discussions and cultural programmes marking the day.

Freedom fighters and villagers said two hundred people, including 17 freedom fighters, embraced martyrdom on April 19 when the Pakistani army sprayed bullets on them, after making them stand in a queue underneath the coconut trees.

They later burnt the bodies of the martyred freedom fighters, they said.
