Ctg man shoots brother, nephew dead

Two people were shot dead during a clash over fishing at Satkania upazila in Chittagong this afternoon.

The dead were identified as Hazi Md Idris, 50, and his son Abdul Khalek, 22, hailing from Khagaria union of the upazila, reports our Chittagong correspondent.

There had been a long-standing feud between Idris and his brother Shafiqur Rahman for long over fishing in a disputed pond, said Farid Uddin Khandoker, officer-in-charge of Satkania Police Station.

The two families locked into altercations this afternoon when Shafiqur and his three sons started fishing in the pond.

At one stage, some from Shafiqur’s side opened fire, leaving Idris dead on the spot while his bullet injured son Khaleque succumbed to his injuries at Satkania Upazila Health Complex, the OC said.

Momtaj Begum, 40, wife of Idris, her other son Saifuddin Jahed, 27, and daughter Yasmin Akter Saki, 17, were also injured in the fighting.

Later, they were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Md Habibur Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Chittagong (south zone), visited the spot. He said family members of Shafiqur had fled the scene to avoid arrest.
