3 Ctg doctors, 15 medical staffers quarantined

Three doctors and 15 staffers including nurses and ward boys of a private hospital in Chattogram have been sent for home quarantine as they came into contact with a coronavirus patient there, said Chattogram Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi.

The doctors and the health workers were isolated since Friday evening, our Chattogram correspondent said quoting the civil surgeon.

Their samples have been collected for test, he said.

A 67-year-old man in Chattogram tested positive for coronavirus yesterday, making him port city's first confirmed case of the virus.

The patient has been undergoing treatment at the Chattogram General Hospital from Thursday, according to Hasan Shahriar Kabir, director (Chattogram division) of the Directorate General and Health Services (DGHS).

His samples were tested at the Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) and the patient was found positive for coronavirus yesterday, Shahriar Kabir added.

Meanwhile, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) enforced isolation of all the residents of a three-storey building in Supariwala Para area of the port city as a resident of the building met with a coronavirus patient recently.

The building was locked down around 12:45pm today, said Sadip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Double Mooring Police Station.

The OC said a nephew of the patient is a resident at the building and he recently visited the house of the patient at Dampara.

Six families of the building were asked to stay inside for 14 days, the OC added.
