The government today renamed Ministry of Environment and Forest as Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to incorporate the contemporary phenomenon.

Bangladesh’s cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, renamed the ministry during a regular meeting today, Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Alam said in the briefing.

“Climate change is a new scenario in the world. Currently, it is one of the most important issue globally,” he said citing the reason behind the proposal of name change.

The cabinet later mutually agreed and approved the change of name to the ministry.
