The government decided to modify 12 textbooks of Class IX and X so that the students find those easier to learn, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said today.

The subjects are, Bangla Literature, English for today, Bangladesh and Global studies, Bangladesh and World Civilisation, Math, Higher Math, General Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accounting and Economics, the minister said.

He was talking to reporters after a meeting with educationists on improving the quality of secondary education at his ministry this afternoon.

The modified textbooks will be handed over to the students next year, the minister said.

A standardized process has been initiated to check answer-scripts as well, the minister said.

During the ongoing SSC examinations, the examiners were provided with model answer scripts and a mark scheme to check the examination papers, Nahid added.

This was done because a research conducted by the Bangladesh Examination Development unit found that the same answer script is marked differently by different examiners.

Eminent educationists Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Dr Farashuddin, Dr Manzoor Ahmed, Professor Dr M Kaikobad were among those who were present in the meeting.
