Clash over land dispute leaves 8 injured

At least eight people were injured during a clash between two groups of villagers over the ownership of a disputed land at Potapur village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.

One group is led by Rabiul Islam while another by Abdul Goni of the village.

Locals and police said there had been a longstanding dispute between Rabiul Islam and Abdul Goni over the ownership of 15 decimals of land at the village.

Following an altercation between Rabiul and Goni over the matter at a tea shop at around 9:00am, the supporters of the two, equipped with sharp weapons, rushed in and swooped on each other.

At least eight people from both sides were injured during the clash that continued for half an hour. Being informed, police went to the spot and dispersed the clashing groups.

Of the injured, Liakat Ali, 48, Hafiz Uddin, 50, Momena Khatun, 35, and Amena Khatun, 40, were admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hhospital while the rest given first aid at a local clinic.
