Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha today urged the government to relocate the lower courts from Old Dhaka to near the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

“Dhaka Judge Court is very crowded and congested,” the chief justice said while speaking at a meeting held following his visit to the Keraniganj prison.

“There is not enough space to sit or keep office files. So, I discussed the issue with Bar association members and they agreed with my proposal of shifting the lower court,” he said.

“It takes a lot of time to take the inmates to the court in Dhaka and bring them back to jail,” he said.

“If the court is shifted, the jail authorities will be benefitted while taking inmates to the court easily,” he said adding that adequate space is also available in Keraniganj to set up a court house.

“Now a day, tendency of committing crimes has increased. Recently in Gazipur, a convict was snatched while taken to court. This type of incident may occur again,” he said.

“To avoid such incidents, the court building to be shifted near the central jail,” he said.

He also hoped that the trial of the BDR carnage case will end soon and added that: “I have already requested the judges in this regard.”
