A woman has been arrested over the murder of a Christian trader in Natore.

The arrestee Monowara Begum alias Moni, 28, is a tenant of slain Sunil Gomez’s house in Natore. She was arrested from Dhaka’s Badda, our local correspondent reports.

She was arrested last night, Abdul Hai, officer-in-charge of Natore police’s Detective Branch (DB) said. She was produced before court today and sought for five-day remand.

Earlier, police also arrested one Sabuj who was also a tenant of the house on the day of murder, suspecting his involvement with the incident.

Besides, Christian community in Baraigram upazila of Natore today staged demonstration protesting the killing of grocer Sunil Gomez.

Around 10:30am, more than 2,000 Christians brought out a procession from Bonpara Christian Palli and ended on the bypass intersection at Bonpara where they formed a human chain, reports our Natore correspondent.

During the protest, they blockaded Bonpara road, halting transport movement on Dhaka-Natore and Natore-Pabna highway.

On June 5, unknown assailants hacked 60-year-old Sunil to death at his shop at Bonpara Christian Palli in the upazila.

Hours after Sunil was hacked to death, global terror outfit Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the killing, according to SITE Intelligence Group that monitors terrorist activities.
