Challenged woman, 2 kids drown in ponds

A mentally challenged girl and two minor boys drowned in Rajbari, Gopalganj and Joypurhat on Sunday and yesterday.

Sundori Biswas, 22, daughter of Rojonikanto Biswas of the village, drowned in a pond at Jungle village under Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari on Sunday, reports our Faridpur correspondent

“Sundori went missing when she went to wash utensils in a pond. Later, her family members found her body floating in the pond,” said Baliakandi Police Station Sub-Inspector Bilal Hossain, quoting family members

A boy drowned in a pond at Kalikabari village under Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj on Sunday, our correspondent reports.

The victim was Goutam Panday, 9, son of Gopal Panday of the village.

Goutam's family members said he drowned while taking a bath in a pond. Later, locals found his body floating in the pond, they added.

Our Joypurhat correspondent reports that a minor boy drowned when he fell into a pond in Joypurhat Sadar upazila yesterday,

The boy was Md Rafiul Islam, 4, son of Sanowar Hossain of Helkunda village under Sadar upazila of Joypurhat.

Rafiqul's family members said he was playing near a pond yesterday and went missing.

Villagers found the boy floating in the pond, said Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Hossain.
