4 killed in Rangpur road accidents

Four persons were killed and ten others injured in two separate road accidents in Pirganj and Sadar upazilas of Rangpur, police and hospital sources said.

Ten persons were injured after a Dinajpur-bound night coach from Dhaka hit railing of a bridge at Dhaperhat point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Pirganj upazila this morning.

Being informed, police from Pirganj Thana and Barodorga Highway Police Camp rushed to the spot and sent the injured ones to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Later, three critically injured passengers -- Golam Mostafa, 27, and Dukhu Mian, 32, of Dinajpur Sadar upazila and Azahar Ali, 30, of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur district -- succumbed to their injuries.

In another incident, pedestrian Belly Roy, 45, of village Lalchandpur under Kotwali Thana was killed as a bus hit her at nearby Sholeyasha point on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway under Sadar upazila this noon.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahat Anwar along with Additional District Magistrate KM Maruf Hassan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Priyosindhu Talukder and Executive Magistrate Mintu Biswas visited the injured persons at RMCH.

"We gave Taka 7,000 among relatives of each of the four deceased persons and Taka 2,000 among each of the seven injured persons," the DC told the news agency.

Two separate cases have been field with Pirganj and Kotwali Thana.
