Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued show cause notices to Banglalink, Teletalk, Citycell, Airtel and Robi as they have failed to deposit the unused balance of the connections that were blocked in between 2008 and 2014.

Previously, the telecom watchdog asked for data preserved and prepared by the operators about the blocked connections and their unused balances a few months ago. But the operators failed to submit that information as well, a top official of the telecom regulator, told The Daily Star today.

Newly appointed Managing Director of Teletalk, Kazi Golam Quddus, said they have received a letter a few days back but have not found any such kind of letter till yesterday evening.

“We are in the process of finalising our calculation and within a short time we will reply to BTRC,” said Quddus.

In its reply, Banglalink said they have already responded regulator’s first show cause notice within the stipulated time where they mentioned that they are not in violation of any directive and sought to have a meeting with the regulator to discuss this matter.
