BSF kills another

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead another Bangladeshi national in Chhat Karaibari border area under Roumari upazila of Kurigram yesterday, two days after the killing of a person in the same upazila.

The deceased was Baharul Islam, 28, son of Baktar Hossain of Chhat Karaibari border village of Datbhanga union under Roumari upazila, reports our Kurigram correspondent.

On September 23, BSF shot dead a 25-year old Bangladeshi citizen in Roumari and a cattle trader in Jhenidah. Two days earlier, the BSF killed another man in Lalmonirhat.

Baharul, who was involved with smuggling, went inside 'no-man's land' of India-Bangladesh border at Chhat Karaibari village around 4:00am yesterday, said Subedar Abdul Aziz, Company Commander of 35 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion at Datbhanga in Jamalpur.

BSF of Gutalu (Dipchar) camp in India opened fire at Baharul, hitting him on his chest, he said, adding that Baharul somehow returned to Bangladesh territory where he fell to the ground and died.

The body will be sent to Kurigram Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Rafiqul Islam, sub-inspector of Roumari Police Station.
