Bridge collapses under truck
Road link with Barisal remains snapped
A Bailey bridge over Peyaderhat canal in Kazirchar union under Muladi upazila of the district broke down under the heavy weight of a rice-laden truck yesterday.
Road links between Muladi upazila, Barisal and Mehendiganj upazila were disrupted due to the incident.
Witnesses said the steel plates collapsed when the loaded truck was crossing the bridge.
The 33 metre-long bridge was constructed 15 years ago by the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Barisal.
'We are trying to procure another Bailey bridge from Gopalganj,” said Md Khaled Shaheed, executive engineer of RHD Barisal.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Muladi Md Atahar Mia said they have asked the high officials of RHD to repair the bridge as soon as possible.
Temporary road communication will be established immediately, he added.
