Bogura drug case accused escapes from police custody

An accused in a drug case escaped from police custody in Bogura last evening.

Md Saiful Islam alias Sagar, 28, hailing from Sherpur upazila in the district, managed to flee the scene from Bogura Chief Judicial Magistrate courtyard around 6:30pm yesterday, our district correspondent reports quoting Assistant Sub-Inspector of Sadar Court Station Md Emdadul Haque.

“Saiful was arrested around 10:00pm Saturday from the Sherpur Town Club area red handed when he was selling heroine,” the ASI said.

A drug case was later filed against him with Sherpur Police Station on that day, he said.

Therefore, police produced him before the court last evening, which ordered him to send to jail yesterday evening,” according to the case statement.

Saiful managed to remove his handcuffs and flee the Bogura court premises around 6:30pm when he was being taken to the prison van, the correspondent reports quoting the official.

“The accused was produced in court yesterday and the court ordered him to be sent to jail. But he managed to flee the scene by hitting a policeman before taking him into the prison van,” Bogura Court Inspector Abul Kalam Azad told the correspondent.

He said a case was filed with Sadar Police Station in this connection.

Contacted, Officer-in-charge of the police station SM Badiuzzaman said, “Police is trying to arrest him.”
