An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League of its Government Azizul Haque College unit was reportedly stabbed to death in a clash with local Jubo League men in Bogra this afternoon.

Deceased Ibrahim Hossain Sabuj, 23, son of Saiful Islam of Bogra’s Kahaloo upazila, was a master’s student of Bangla department.

The clash ensued after Sabuj locked into an altercation with a rickshaw-puller over the fare on the campus. At one stage, locals, mostly of the AL’s youth front, reportedly protested him, triggering the clash, Gaziur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police (B Circle and Media) in Bogra, told our local correspondent.

Two others associates of Sabuj -- Shiblu Mia, 21, and Bappi Mia, 32, -- were also injured in the clash. They were undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital in the town, the police official said.

Protesting the death, aggrieved BCL men blockaded Shatmatha, beat up a police officer and torched his motorcycle there, he added.
