BNP-backed UP polls aspirant’s nephew killed in Pirojpur

A nephew of BNP-backed chairman candidate from Sheikh Matia Union Parishad in Nazirpur upazila of Pirojpur has been stabbed to death by miscreants.

The deceased Shamsul Haque Chhotto, 28, a nephew of chairman aspirant Towhidul Islam, was a joint secretary of the upazila unit of Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal, reports Pirojpur correspondent.

Miscreants swooped on Shamsul and his friend Jahangir Hossain at Raghunathpur area when they were returning their home by a motorbike around 8:30pm last night, said Md Walid Hossain, superintendent of police in Pirojpur.

Shamsul was stabbed severely on his lower part of the body. His friend Jahangir was also injured, the SP also said.

Shamsul succumbed to his injures around four hours after he was admitted to a local hospital, the police official added.

Police suspected that the attack might be carried out following a conflict over the election which will begin on March 22.
