The city corporation elections will be an acid test for the government and the Election Commission, BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said today.

“Rangpur and other city corporation polls are very important as these are going to take place before the next elections. We will closely observe the government and the Election Commission’s roles,” Mosharraf said.

Claiming that people will bring his party to power if the next general election is held in a free, fair and credible manner, Mosharraf said: “We, the countrymen will resist the government if it heads to hold a lopsided election like January 5, 2014”.

He was addressing a discussion organised by Bangladesh Citizen Rights Forum protesting the ongoing killings and enforced disappearances at the Dhaka Reporters’ unity.

Mosharraf criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her comments on enforced disappearances and said “she (premier) cannot hide the facts and figures”.
